Introduction
The University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex (USLTHC) is the premier teaching hospital in Sierra Leone and the nation’s foremost center for advanced medical care, training, and research. Established to strengthen the healthcare delivery system, USLTHC functions not only as a provider of high-quality clinical services but also as a key academic institution where the future generation of healthcare professionals is nurtured.
As the only teaching hospital complex in Sierra Leone, USLTHC serves as the principal referral point for specialized medical care while maintaining its core mandate of training undergraduate and postgraduate students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and other allied health disciplines. Historical Background
USLTHC was formally established on 21st March 2016 under the Teaching Hospitals Complex Administration Act No. 8 of 2016. This historic Act unified several hospitals under a single administrative and operational framework to improve coordination, efficiency, and healthcare delivery.
Since its inception, USLTHC has made significant strides in bridging healthcare gaps, fostering innovation, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. It has grown into a beacon of hope for patients across Sierra Leone, a knowledge hub for healthcare practitioners, and a trusted partner in international collaborations.
