Strengthening Healthcare in Sierra Leone: USLTHC and HEALTH SHOW Unite for Cancer Care

In a heartwarming display of collaboration and generosity, the USLTHC Board of Administration Chairperson, Dr. Sonia Spencer, and Acting Chief Medical Director, Prof. K. S. Oluwadiya, participated in a significant donation event at Connaught Hospital on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Organized by the philanthropic organization HEALTH SHOW, the event marked yet another milestone in the journey to enhance cancer care at Ward Two of the hospital.

A Legacy of Dedication to Ward Two

The HEALTH SHOW organization has been a pivotal force in transforming Ward Two. After renovating and dedicating the ward to cancer treatment in 2019, the organization has continued to support it with essential resources. This year’s donation included much-needed medicines, food supplies, and uniforms for patients, palliative caregivers, and nurses, reinforcing their commitment to a holistic approach to healthcare.

Dr. Sonia Spencer, in her remarks during the handover, expressed profound gratitude to all who have worked tirelessly to uphold the standards of care in Ward Two. Recognizing the HEALTH SHOW’s unwavering dedication, she announced that Ward Two would henceforth be named the HEALTH SHOW Cancer Ward. This gesture underscores the organization’s transformative impact on the ward’s operations and patient care.

Renewing Commitments for a Brighter Future

Another highlight of the event was the announcement of an extension to the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the HEALTH SHOW, Connaught Hospital, and the Teaching Hospitals Board. The extended agreement, now set to run until 2026, ensures the continuation of HEALTH SHOW’s vital work in the ward.

Isatu Sisay Jalloh, head of the HEALTH SHOW, reaffirmed their dedication to cancer care in Sierra Leone. She pledged to make annual donations in honor of World Cancer Day, further enhancing the ward’s resources and environment. This commitment, she said, symbolizes their vision of creating a conducive atmosphere for effective cancer treatment and recovery.

Celebrating Collaboration and Impact

The event was graced by several notable figures in Sierra Leone’s healthcare sector, including Dr. Isaac Small and other dedicated health workers who have played an integral role in the ward’s success. Their efforts, combined with the support of HEALTH SHOW, highlight the power of collaboration in tackling critical health challenges.
