About Prof. Oluwadiya, Chief Medical Director, USLTHC
Prof. Oluwadiya was conferred with the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in 2001, after which he assumed an academic role as a Lecturer I in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) College of Health Sciences, Osogbo. In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Professor of Surgery. His dedication to medical education continued as he held key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Anatomy, Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at Osun State University, and later as Provost of the College of Medicine at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.
At EKSU, Prof. Oluwadiya was instrumental in the establishment of the university’s medical faculty and hospital, overseeing the training of the first set of doctors. His leadership further extended to the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where he served as the foundational Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences.
In addition to his clinical and academic career, Prof. Oluwadiya is a respected author in the field of medical statistics, having written the widely-read book Getting to Know SPSS, aimed at helping medical students better understand statistical analysis. His diverse interests also include football, a sport he actively played until a decade ago, and he was a member of the “Let Us Bere” Senior Staff Football Club at OAU, Ile-Ife.
Prof. Oluwadiya is deeply committed to advancing healthcare in Sierra Leone and beyond. His role at USLTHC includes overseeing the complex’s operations while ensuring the highest standards in medical care, research, and training. He works alongside a dedicated team of healthcare professionals to strengthen the country’s medical infrastructure and provide quality care to the community.
Prof. Oluwadiya is married to his wonderful wife, Ronke, a talented academic and livestock farmer. Ronke holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Ado-Ekiti and has a master’s degree and MPhil in Demography and Social Statistics from Obafemi Awolowo University. Her research work complements her passion for livestock farming at Puffic Farms, where she raises pigs and chickens.
Prof. Oluwadiya is the Chief Medical Director of the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex (USLTHC), Freetown. A seasoned and accomplished Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, he brings over three decades of experience in surgery, academia, and leadership within the medical field. His expertise spans across orthopaedic trauma, back pain, osteomyelitis, and general surgery, reflecting a deep commitment to improving healthcare and advancing medical education.
Prof. Oluwadiya began his academic journey at Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, before obtaining his medical degree in 1989 from the prestigious College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He went on to complete his internship at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, and further honed his skills during his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program at Wadata Clinic in Bida.
In 1994, Prof. Oluwadiya became a junior registrar in surgery at OAUTHC, where he achieved notable success, including winning the Oritsejolomi Thomas’ Prize for the best candidate nationwide in the Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria’s Part 1 Fellowship Examination in 1996. He completed his senior residency and fellowship training in orthopaedic surgery under the mentorship of renowned professionals such as Prof. L. M. Oginni, Dr. E. A. Bamgboye, and Prof. A. L. Akinyoola.
