*USLTHC Third Constituted Board of Administration Holds First Meeting*

The University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex (USLTHC) has held the first meeting of its third constituted Board of Administration since the institution’s establishment in 2016.

The meeting was chaired by the newly appointed Board Chairman, Prof. Gibrilla Fadlu Deen, and brought together the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kehinde Oluwadiya; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health; the President of the SLPCHS; the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer; and other distinguished members representing various institutions and professional bodies on the Board.

Welcoming members to the meeting, the Chairman emphasised the importance of collective leadership, collaboration and a shared commitment to advancing the mandate of the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kehinde Oluwadiya, presented a status report on the Complex, highlighting its current position, ongoing activities and areas requiring further strategic attention.

In outlining his vision for the Board, Prof. Deen emphasised the need to expand and strengthen residency training at the Complex. Beyond the continued development of specialist medical training, he underscored the importance of creating opportunities for the training and professional development of all relevant cadres within the healthcare system, thereby strengthening the broader health workforce.

The Chairman also identified national and international collaboration as a key priority, stressing the urgency of building stronger partnerships that can contribute to training, research, innovation, knowledge exchange and institutional development.

Research expansion also featured prominently in the Chairman’s vision, alongside the need to strengthen quality and accessible service delivery, particularly for communities outside Freetown. He highlighted the importance of deploying specialists and senior resident doctors on rotations to provide quality specialist healthcare services to Sierra Leoneans in rural and underserved communities.

The meeting further considered a range of issues relating to the mandate of the Teaching Hospitals Complex, specialist training, healthcare delivery, research and the broader development of Sierra Leone’s health sector.

As the third properly constituted Board since the establishment of the USLTHC in 2016, the new Board has expressed a clear commitment to building on existing achievements while pursuing new opportunities for growth, collaboration, training, research and service delivery.

The Board’s vision signals a new chapter in the continued development of the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex and its contribution to Sierra Leone’s healthcare system.
